I would like to take the time to officially announce the start of Jeremy Maz Photography & jeremymaz.com!!! I have jumped through the hoops of the city & the tax boards and all that other business stuff and have officially established Jeremy Maz Photography! I have been working somewhat unofficially for a while, but figured, "Why not step into the realm of a small business owner?" So here's to the start of a hopefully promising business development!

I have also put together the first launch of my website, www.jeremymaz.com. Go ahead and take a look around and hopefully we could work together soon. Maybe even visit the JMP Facebook fan page and become a fan so you can help in spreading the word! Thanks all who have supported me thus far & I can't wait to keep doing what I love!

Sharp Family Portraits

So I had the opportunity to go out to Elk Grove, CA and do a family portrait session with some family friend's a couple of weeks ago. The Sharps consist of Mike & Monica and their two kids Macie and Adon (forgive me if those are spelled wrong). It was a lot of fun. They wanted pictures in and around their house that they just moved into earlier this year and we definitely had some fun with it. The weather was beautiful and the clouds made for some great pictures. Here are some of my favorites from the day!

We started off with some in their game room with the pool table!

Then Monica had the idea to lug this couch/love seat outside of the house which made for some great shots!

See what I mean about the sky being absolutely perfect!!!!!

Then we had a little fun with some bubbles. I mean seriously..... bubbles will never fail to bring some fun!!

Trampolines & Neon Clothes

So I've been wanting to do this for a while but haven't had the chance to until now. I set up my lighting equipment out by my aunt and uncle's trampoline last week to do a cool little photoshoot with some of my friends Ryan & Brent. We were hoping to get more with the sunset in the background but our timing was a little off. Nonetheless, we still got some sweet shots that I am really pleased with. Anytime you throw in some neon clothes and $10 sunglasses from target, you know there's something good!!

Then we decided to move away from the trampoline and just do some fun ones on the ground, although we did end up doing more jumping! The rediculousness is pretty amazing!

A little more than just another Photo Shoot

So about a week ago, I did a fun little shoot with my friend Tiffany Schmorleitz, who I'm sure you have seen in a few of my other photoshoots. She's a great model and willing to do pretty much anything I ask of her so it makes for a good photographer to model relationship.

We went down into kind of the woodsy area by the river and basically hiked aroun until we found some opps. Now I don't know if I can actually express to you how rediculously excited I was when I was editing these. The lighting turned out perfect and by giving the images a somewhat vintage feel, it totally completed the whole package.

As I looked at them, I was almost too excited to concentrate on even editing them!! I also realized that I have come so far in my photography from when I just began, and even from just within the past few years and months. With all of the knowledge I've gained in the classroom, out on the field and from my friends and inspiring photographers, I can now start to feel more and more confident to say that I am a photographer, in all aspects of the word. This shoot really made me realize that, and it serves as somewhat of a pivotal point in my journey to become who I want to be as an artist. Thank you for your inspiration, however you may have presented it to me.

I definitely think this is my favorite of the bunch.

After the big day...

My oldest sister wanted to do some pictures of her and her husband in her wedding dress before she packed it all away. They wanted a lot of more candid shots outdoors that are a little more creative and could be used to add a little flair to their wedding albums. We took an afternoon and actually drove all across town to get a few different looks. I will admit, I went a little "trendy sunflair" happy (which I normally try to keep to a minimum since it's like all you see on photography blogs these days), but my sister specifically asked for some. Anyways, here are some of my favorites.

Old Sugar Mill..... way past due but whatever!!

So way back in the rainy season of the California Valley, I teamed up with photographers Chris & Jen of Jen Stewart Photography to do a "just for fun" photoshoot at a place called The Old Sugar Mill in Clarksburg, CA. We got a few models and headed out. It was pouring rain on and off the whole day but that definitely didn't stop us.

The Old Sugar Mill has some great photo opps all around from the oak barrel wine cellars, the old torn apart warehouse and the vineyard that sits right across the street. It was a lot of fun to be able to go and take pictures just because and really take the time to brainstorm and focus on what we wanted. I got some great shots despite our horrible weater.

So I'm pretty sure that this is straight out of "SAW" or something..... creepy status!!!

Robitaille Family Portraits

I had the chance to take th Robitaille's family portraits just a couple months ago. I have known them for years and now that both children are out of the house, Steve and Cindy wanted some pictures to update the ones from years ago. It was a hot day but the light actually served us well and seemed to work out really well.

Cambodia Here I Come

As some of you know, I will be leaving to go to Cambodia this coming November. I will be photographing for an organization called Chab Dai, which works against human trafficking. I just wanted to let all of you know that I have created a blog specifically for my trip to Cambodia, Jeremy In Cambodia.

120 Film Series

So for the past year or so, I have been doing a little bit more of some film work. I have really wanted to get into some medium format shooting but have found myself becoming easily distracted by the convenience of digital. I have a little Lubitel TLR 120 camera that I have been shooting just to kind of see what I can get out of it. Without a meter I do a lot of guessing and checking. I actually really like it. It challenges me more the photograph how I used to. It was even funny to see that because the camera does not automatically advance the roll I have a few double exposures. I find a few of them relatively intriguing.

The images were shot on a day trip to the coast I took with my friend Levi Rugg a while back and some were taken at Folsom Lake in the winter when the water was low. I like them both differently. I experimented with blur. The amount of grain pleases me. The Folsom Lake shots are reminiscent of the Sigur Ros album "Hvarf-Heim" as well as their DVD entitled Heima. The album artwork, although different, seems to have subconsciously inspired these images.

Independent Study Project

So this past semester I worked on an independent study project and have finally finished it. The idea for the project was "Made to be....". I always try to tell a story with my photography. I think it is so important to have more than just a good picture so I wanted to be able to tell peoples stories of what they believe they were made to be. I believe passionately that everyone is where they are in the present moment because there is purpose for them there. I tried to find a wide range of people with many different purposes in their life.

This was also my first project using my new lights I just bought!!! BIGIDDY!!! I was definitely pleased with the results and am looking forward to doing some more projects with them!!

Rachel Moxley Senior Portraits

So I have been doing a whole lot of senior portraits lately. A couple of weeks ago I was able to do a portrait session with Rachel Moxley. She is a senior at Bella Vista High School and also goes to my church and is in the youth group I work in. It was actually great weather with clouds to even out the light which made for some great pictures. There was a bit of wind but we just tried to use it to our favor and gave Rachel some of those model pics with her hair in the wind!!! Here are a few of my favorites from the day!

So the wild flowers were absolutely amazing and made for a great spot!!! Rachel you got lucky!!

Kristyna Senior Portraits

So I have known the Cole family for quite some time now. I have many connections with their family which have actually made for a great relationship to build between me and their family. Kristyna is their only girl and the oldest and has actually already graduated from an independent study program earlier this year and is going to walk at graduation this spring.

I had the privaledge of taking her senior portraits. We had talked about wanting to do some in a more nature setting and also some in more industrial looking areas so by a great suggestion from Jen at Jen Stewart Photography, we went to Old Folsom. It was the perfect day for pictures! Sunny but not too hot! It was a great time shooting and I was definitely pleased with the pictures!! Here are just a few of my favorites!!

I was so glad that the poppies were in full bloom!!! It was perfect for the shoot!

VCA Baseball Game

So I know that it's been a little while since I posted so I thought I'd give you all a bit of eye candy to hold you all over. I'm actually in the middle of working on a shoot so that will hopefully be coming soon.

Anyways.... last Friday I went to a Ryan Cordell's baseball game at Valley Christian Academy with Brent, Brooke & Jessika. So basically I started the Ryan Cordell Fan Club (RCFC) during Ryan's basketball season and now it's carrying over into the Baseball season as well. It's always a good time going and screaming from the stands. It was definitely a good time and I took some pics as well. Nothing too special but caught some sweet moments of Ryan pitching. BIGIDDY!!!

So this is actually another friend Chris Parker hitting a home run!! Yee Yee!

A Banana on a bad day...

So today I was cutting up bananas to make a little breakfast and to my surprise this is what I saw....

No joke! The bananas all had sad faces in the middle! Talk about a bad day to be a banana! Just thought I'd share that little funny piece of my day (and try out my new blogging app. from my phone!)

Roseville Press Tribune Article w/ Photos by Yours Truly

So one of my really good friends, Ryan Cordell, was voted "Athlete of the Month" for February in the Roseville Press Tribune. He's a Junior at Valley Christian Academy and plays both basketball and baseball. Anyways, once I found out he one I contacted the newspaper and let them know that I had some pictures of Ryan playing B-Ball that they could use as long as they gave me recognition.... and low and behold THEY DID!!! So not only was I super stoked and proud of Ryan, I was definitely excited to have some pictures in the paper. BIGIDDY!!! It's on the web site as well (you can follow this link to read it). So congrats to Ryan.... keep it up mayne! :)

Susan Downtown

Last week I had the privaledge of assisting a great photographer that I highly admire named Jelani Memory on a shoot that he was working on. Jelani is a photographer based out of Portland, Oregon and his work is phenomenal (be sure to follow the link & check out his website). He actually photographed my sister's wedding back in december and he asked me to help him out in this shoot when he came down to Sacramento. Anyways, I learned a lot from him that day and was eager to go out and try to use some of the techniques he shared with me.

With that said, the next day I asked my friend Susan Anderson to be a model for me and so we went downtown to do just a casual photoshoot. Susan definitely warmed up to the camera and gave some great images. BIGIDDY!!! I was pleased with the results!

Room Photoshoot

So I recently did a photoshoot in my sister's former room (she just got married!) which is quite large and great for photo shoots. I took a studio lighting class last semester in school and so I wanted to put it to good use and take some pics. Granted I don't have studio lights but I made do with some construction lights and a reflector... & might I say that i was extremely pleased with the results.
